Job Description: The Senior Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, Wisconsin will provide software that is secure, performant, and highly available and ensure design patterns are leveraged to align with company and industry standards. Design and build applications that meet business requirements to automate transactions and create a unified user experience. Collaborate with various stakeholders in SDLC phases to understand business requirements and align with software development. Perform technical feasibility study for a business requirement using contextual best suitable technology for life benefits insurance business. Collaborate with engineering team to monitor live systems, fix bugs, write new features, maintain documentation, participate in planning sessions, and mentor junior engineers. Release management, software version management, and production support using Java, REST, SOAP, Spring Cloud, Spring Boot, Microservices, Kafka, NoSQL, Containerization, and Security. Provide knowledge transfer to Customer Success – Incident Response team on new feature deployments. Perform deployment, technical business checkout for benefits micro services and life claims applications utilizing Java Spring Boot. Utilize AWS cloud and its services, including EC2, Amazon VPC, Amazon Lambda, RDS, DynamoDb, S3, KMS, Data Event, API gateway, AppSync, Cloud Watch, Route53, IAM, and Event Bridge. Participate in workshops and planning sessions with business, product stake holders along with Enterprise Architects for technology Roadmap. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. Salary $123,386 - $200,200 per year.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Applied Computer Science, Computer Applications, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 5 years of experience in software engineering related occupation. 5 years of experience must include 5 years of experience with each of the following: (1) Java-based software implementation; (2) designing and developing scalable micro services using Java Spring Boot; (3) AWS cloud and its services, including EC2, Amazon VPC, Amazon Lambda, RDS, DynamoDb, S3, KMS, Data Event, API gateway, AppSync, Cloud Watch, Route53, IAM, and Event Bridge; (4) enterprise-level software development in Java, REST, SOAP, Spring Cloud, Spring Boot, Microservices, Kafka, NoSQL, Containerization, and Security; and (5) building, operating, and utilizing DevSecOps practices for applications running on public cloud environments including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
